Brooklyn Public Library’s (BPL) Canarsie Library, located at 1580 Rockaway Parkway, will be closed for approximately three months for emergency repairs and abatement in non-public space.

“No one was ever in jeopardy – neither library users nor staff,” said Mary Graham, BPL’s Interim Deputy Director for Public Service. “We took immediate action to investigate a small piece of ceiling that had fallen. We’re not taking any chances. Our prompt closure of the building will ensure that a safe Canarsie Library reopens as quickly as possible.”

While the project proceeds, library users can visit nearby libraries, including Jamaica Bay, East Flatbush, Paerdegat, Spring Creek and Stone Avenue libraries. Borrowed materials may be returned at any BPL library. Bookmobile service will be available at Canarsie Library on Wednesdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. Customers can also renew items online at or over the telephone.
