LOOKS OUT FOR COMMUNITY'S HEALTH CARE NEEDS
BPL to bring committed health care providers together to offer all Brooklynites free screenings and information on the health resources available in their communities.
Brooklyn, NY, April 25, 2005– Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) will host BPL: It's A Health Affair! — from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, on May 14 and May 15, 2005, at its Central Library located at Grand Army Plaza.
Free and open to the public, this two-day event will include free health screenings, demonstrations, exhibitions, gift bags, and informative brochures covering a wide array of medical issues. A diverse multitude of BPL’s books and other resources will also be on display, including histories of medicine, medical college texts, preventive medical references, health guides and fitness handbooks.
Certified volunteers will also be on hand to answer questions and distribute information about many health and safety topics, including healthy eating, injury prevention and immunizations. BPL librarians will also provide demonstrations on how to navigate BPL’s online resources: http://www.bklynlibrary.org/eresources#Health/Medicine, a comprehensive database that anyone with Internet access can access at anytime.
BPL: It's A Health Affair welcomes all Brooklyn residents, regardless of their income level or access to health insurance, to get free screenings for and information on:

All heath providers participating in BPL: It's A Health Affair have been licensed by the New York City and New York State health departments. Partnering organizations include New York Methodist Hospital, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Brooklyn Hospital Medical Center and Caribbean Women's Health Association.
BPL: It's A Health Affair is supported by a generous grant from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
