classical interludes BPL Presents live music

ETHEL and Allison Loggins-Hull Present HomeBaked V: Five Commissioned World Premieres in Partnership with Brooklyn Public Library.

ETHEL, NYC’s own genre-defying string quartet (BPL Creatives-In-Residence 2019-20), joins forces with Allison Loggins-Hull, composer, flutist, producer, and Daniel R. Lewis Composer Fellow to the Cleveland Orchestra to present Homebaked V, the fifth iteration of ETHEL’s commissioning program for early-career composers. ETHEL’s HomeBaked initiative, begun in 2010, has commissioned and debuted 20 works by 16 early-career artists.

Together, and with assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts, the quintet has elicited commissions from four brilliant composers: Migiwa Miyajima, Xavier Muzik. Sam Wu, and 2022 Pulitzer Prize finalist, Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti.  Passionate, committed, hopeful and inspiring, each contributes to an experience which surpasses the sum of its parts.

The centerpiece of the program will be the world premiere of Loggins-Hull’s own NEA-commission, Persist. In the composer’s words, Persist is inspired by concepts of perseverance, motivation, and positive outlook.

**PLEASE NOTE: The Lift that provides ADA Access to the Dweck Center is out of service. It sustained damage during a recent flash flooding event and multiple parts were compromised due to water infiltration. Repairs are ongoing and it will be returned to service soon.

We are very excited to have you back at our events and would like to remind you that we are still in the midst of the pandemic. Please be considerate of your fellow guests and stay home if you’re feeling unwell. Also, consider wearing a mask when attending indoor BPL Presents events. You’ll be doing your part to help keep yourself and everyone healthy and safe.

This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.  To find out more about how National Endowment for the Arts grants impact individuals and communities, visit www.arts.gov
